This song was originally written in 1970 and recorded in San Francisco to be part of my second album, "Waving Prairie". It was/is entitled "Earth River" That version is really two songs combined. It was/is a very dynamic and unique song in its message and structure, as it had numerous sections and building dynamics. Also, MANY people where totally enthralled by the song when I preformed it live. That original recording was rushed and really a rough track that we were trying to get to the record company for them to hear. There was a rawness to that track that was endearing, but it never did justice to the song, which is ALWAYS my motivation to recording a track. Well, fade to a time 40 years later and I set upon the path to record this song and do it justice. I recorded it and it was very well received by old and new fans alike in its "long form". I was approached by a music supervisor who was interested to see if I would do him a favor and shorten the song into two songs, as he felt the first "movement" would have been perfect for a movie. So, I went about splitting the song in two and re-titled the two sections, "I'll Be The River" and "Growing Lights". So, what we have here is the "I'll Be The River", which, on its own is a very nice song and went on to be a #1 and Top Ten Song on some Internet music charts. I love the message of this song as it has numerous levels of meaning about love, support and commitment to love.

I’ll be the river and hold you when the ice is thin
I’ll be the river, come and drink me in
Me down here and you upon the bridge
Filling me up with your tears
Yeah, filling me up with tears
Let go and fall in my arms and we will drift to the sea
Where the winds will lift you up and set your troubles free

Sometimes we’re blind
Even when we try to see
Sometimes we’re blind
Oh, sometimes when we’re wandering
And overwhelmed by the unknown
And you think that you’re invisible
When you’re lost and all alone
You need the river heading home
When you’re lost and all alone
You need the river heading home
So, I’ll be the river hold you when the ice is thin
I’ll be the river, come and drink me in

So, let go and fall in my arms and we will drift to the sea
