This is a collection of solo, singer-songwriter tracks with only a touch of instrumental coloring added. The songs are honest and authentic, with a subtle mix of jazz, folk and pop flavors.  This collection is a mellow presentation of what Chet's solo performances were like. Enjoy and share.

BACKGROUND OF THESE SONGS:

Some of these songs date back to 1966 & 1967, but these are solo-cuts, warm, thoughtful, and authentic to the "time". "Old Friends" was inspired by a dream Chet had when he was sleeping in the Wigwam Tee Pee Motel on old Route when he was on his hitch-hiking adventure described in his novel, "The Last Riders On Route 66". He had a very lucid dream of meeting his father, who had "gone to glory", when Chet was a young boy. He dreamed he was in a railroad station in the dream. What was to follow, was stirring because when Chet physically walked thru the old railway station in Flagstaff, Arizona, a day later, the station was the station he dreamed of in his dream. That experience inspired the song, “Old Friends”, which is one of the of the “corner-stone” songs on this album.

Another song that is a cornerstone song is, “Time for Leaving”. When Chet played some of his first singer-songwriter tracks for the ex-bass player in his rock band, he really enjoyed the songs. His bass player mentioned that the songs reminded him of some newer singer-songwriters like Tim Buckley, Tim Hardin, Gordon Lightfoot, Ian & Sylvia, Simon and Garfunkle and Joni Mitchell, so Chet went and bought their records. After listening to Joni Mitchell's album for the first time, Chet wrote the song, “Time For Leaving”.  After listening to Tim Buckley's album, Chet began writing one of his most beautiful and poetic songs, “Who Stole The Ivy”.

Again, a lot of these were the first songs Chet wrote as he transitioned to more of a singer-songwriter, from the rock ‘n’ roll, he had been writing.

At that time he was influenced by:  Gordon Lightfoot, Tim Buckley, Tim Hardin, Joni Mitchell, Ian & Sylvia, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkle, Donovan, The Byrds, Tom Rush, Phil Ochs and other writers.

From these songs,  Chet transitioned to his more unique, rock-folk, outside-loner, acid-psychedelic writing style that catapulted him into the lime light of writers in the 60's and 70's and 80's.
